Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
